Things to know before you cut your hair SHORT

Short hairstyles are so in trend right now. From pixie cuts to asymmetrical bobs, basically every celeb is chopping their hair. If you have always wanted to go short, NOW is the time. Here are a few basic things that you should know before you chop your length off. Whether you’re getting a pixie cut, undercut or even a bob, I hope this info will help you get the cut you want 🙂

Decide if you are low or high maintenance. With short hair sometimes you can get away with a wash and sometimes you have to style it in order for it to look right. A short classic pixie cut, like Anne Hathaway, is the best example of a low maintenance hairstyle. A little wax is more than enough a bit of texture to the hair. Undercuts, long pixie are a little high maintenance and requires continuous grooming and styling.

Decide how short the cut is. With short haircuts there are so many variations. You can go for a pixie which is very short or a bob which is a bit longer. If it is your first time getting a cut I recommend you to take it slow. Start with a long bob (or lob) or long pixie or an angled bob. But if you are daring just go straight for the cut you love.

Know your hair type and face shape. If you have trouble trying to figure out your hair texture visit a salon for a consultation. Talk to your stylist and he/she will be able to tell you what kind of cut will/will not suit your face shape. Once you know your texture and face shape you can google pictures of various celebrities who have the similar texture and face shape for hairstyle inspiration.

Get reference pictures that cover all angles. When you find a haircut online try to find as many examples as possible from the left, right, front and the back. Make sure you cover all angles because you don’t want to bring just one angle into your style and not quite sure of what is going on the other sides. There are a lot of Instagram accounts which provide you with pictures. Check out The Cut Life for inspirations.

Find the right stylist. Almost everybody can pull off a short hairstyle if you have the right cut and your stylist should know exactly how to make your hair look awesome. If you are a bit nervous or skeptical about the cut, ask your stylist to go slow. Ask around or google to find out the a great hairstylist in your area. I got my first pixie at the Vurve Salon in Bangalore. I recommend that you go with somebody who does have a lot of experience with short hair.

Prepare yourself for the shock factor. There are going to be days when you miss your long hair. You are going to get upset and even regret for going short. Usually the regret comes into play when you don’t know what to do with your hair (whether to grow it out or not, how to style it etc). There will be days you hate your hair but there will be definitely more days you’ll love your hair. Also be prepared to face people’s opinion. Some people are going to love it. Some people might not.

New look, New You. Life is too short to have boring hair. Short hair is empowering. I went from really long hair to super short hair and I don’t miss my long hair at all. Short hair has changed me in a lot of ways. It transformed the way I look. It gives me much more confidence. It is very comfortable. I feel more feminine with short hair. It makes you more stylish. I just love short hair on me. You will have a new way of dressing an make-up. You will rediscover yourself and I am not even lying.
